Protected areas are proving a key part of the global response to climate change. They offer natural defences and reduce the impact of disasters such as hurricanes, floods and landslides by acting as buffers for communities in the face of climate extremes. Without them, the climate challenge would be even greater. Director General of IUCN, Julia Marton-Lefèvre, on natural ways to combat climate change.
