Protest VDC violence on Eid: Geelani asks Jammu Muslims Tuesday, 06 August 2013 Reiterating his demand for disbanding of the Village Defense Committees, Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday urged people in Jammu province to protest on Eid againstthe highhandedness of members of these committees. The octogenarian leader expressed his "deep concern" over the overnight incidents of stone pelting and “intimidation” of the local Muslim population in Chenab Valley. “The miscreants involved in such incidents are known and there are no doubts that members of Village Defense Committees are involved in these incidents,” he said. While demanding dissolution of VDCs, Geelani appealed people in Jammu province to demonstrate and protest on Eid ul Fitr prayers against the “highhandedness” of members of these committees. Geelani blamed VDC members for their mischievous behaviour and added that they are ‘terrorizing’ the local Muslims and have created turmoil like situation in Chenab valley. “These committees are directly under the influence ofSangh forces and their main aim is to compel local Muslims to vacate and make it an area free from Muslim community.” Commenting on the role played by local administration, he said that several officers appointed to key positions are affiliated to sectarian ideology, “so they do not listen the Muslims or redress their grievances and instead of providing any relief to effected Muslim community. They feel satisfaction and joy and extend every possible support to these sectarian elements for that they think that they are doing the good job.” Geelani said that there is nothing denying the fact that some section are hell-bent to isolate theChenab Valley, Poonch and Rajori from their brethren in Valley. However, he said, “now no more distances exist between Chenab and Kashmir valley.” “People in valley share pain and we stand with them and understand their agonies they face.” Geelani reaffirmed his faith and announced that “we won’t allow repeating the history and episodeof 1947.” While blaming RSS and Sangh Prewar, Syed Ali Geelani said that were trying to create differences between the two communities. Geelani in his appeal to Muslim community of Jammu province,stressed to demonstrate and protest after Eid prayers against the excesses perpetrated by communal elements and stressedto put pressure on administrationfor immediate dissolution and disarm the committee and take action against those VDC members involved in stone pelting murder, rape and extortion.
