Protestant Unionist Loyalist Cultural Event. 1st Shankill Somme Association Memorial Service & Mural Unveiling 2014 The people of the Shankill Road have given much over the years & decades. The loyalty of Shankill Road People has never been in question & when they were asked to fight for King & Country, as they do today for Queen & Country, our brave men & women, had, & have, no hesitation in doing so. Thousands of young men marched down the Shankill Road off to War, with over 1500 of them never to return. 1000,s more were so badly wounded, or damaged by the horror they witnessed, that they would & could, not recover.
