Protests broke out at Pant Marg headquarters of the BJP here on Tuesday ))))))))))))) after party workers from rival factions gathered in a show of strength demanding tickets for their leaders. Dheer Singh Bidhuri, an aspirant from Okhla constituency, resigned after he was denied the ticket. Supporters of Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay were among the protesters as his name was not included in the list of candidates released late on Monday night. The party released names of 62 candidates but did not name the candidate for Malviya Nagar constituency from where Mr. Upadhyay is seeking the ticket. His supporters, however, demanded the party consider fielding him from Mehrauli which is a BJP stronghold. The constituency was held by former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma’s son Pravesh Verma who went on to become Member of Parliament from West Delhi. Different factions of party workers -- supporters of Mr. Upadhyay, Shikha Rai and some from the poorvanchal community -- shouted slogans and held a dharna against the top leadership. According to the police, party supporters scuffled inside the office premises. “Force was deployed outside the office, so when the scuffle broke out, our personnel took control of the situation,” said a police officer.
