Protests in front of Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia Call for Protection of Burmese ……………………………………………………………………………….…….. Yangon, June 6 Four Burmese organizations protested in front of the Myanmar Embassy in Malaysia on June 6th, demanding the Burmese in Malaysia to be protected by law, said an official from the Chinese Cemetery Association of Kepong. The demonstration was led by the Myanmar opposition groups in Malaysia, including the 88 Generation Students Group, NLD YOUTH (LA) Malaysia, the General Strike Committee (GSC), and the Chinese Cemetery Association of Kepong. According to the Chinese Cemetery Association of Kepong, in addition to the said request, Myanmar ambassador U Tin Latt demanded that the Malaysian ambassador be deprived of his position and apologize for declaring misleading information; that the list of dead people be released; that the injured be provided with medical attention; and that the victims of violence be given secure protection. As the Myanmar government’s announcement regarding the violence against the Burmese in Malaysia was refuted by the actual incident, U Tin Latt called for correct information to be released, stated an official from the Chinese Cemetery Association of Kepong. The Star, a Malaysian news agency, described that on June 5, the day after the Myanmar government warned the Malaysian government to take action against the strife, the Malaysian police started arresting foreigners as part of an investigation in Kuala Lumpur and that over 1000 Burmese had been captured. Following the killing of Burmese people in Malaysia, U Zin Yaw, vice-minister of foreign affairs, has asked the Malaysian ambassador to investigate and take action against the ongoing acts of violence and to ensure they do not occur again in the future. As a result of group violence in Sala Yan and An Pan a few days ago, three Burmese were killed and four severely injured.
