“Proud To Be An American Week” September 8-12, 2014 Word of the Week: PROUD Monday, 9/08 – “Flag Day” Display and Discuss the Character Word of the Week and Theme Wear Red, White and/or Blue Interview and record student comments about “Why I am Proud to Be An American” Play or sing patriotic songs and discuss their meaning in classes Tuesday, 9/09 –”USA Day” *Wear Patriotic T-Shirts or Red, White and/or Blue T-Shirts Invite a community speaker to talk about what it means to be an American *Play or sing: “America (My Country Tis of Thee)” Wednesday, 9/10 – “Proud To Be An American Day” *Wear Stars & Stripes or Hat Day (Red, White, Blue) *Recite “Pledge of Allegiance” at 8:45 a.m. (Time of terrorist attack on 9/11/2001) *Play or sing: “The Star Spangled Banner” Thursday, 9/11 – “Patriotic Socks Day” *Wear Red, White, and/or Blue Socks Have each grade level to create and present a “Proud To Be An American” activity * Play or sing: “America the Beautiful” Friday, 9/12 – “Patriotic Day” *Wear Red, White and/or Blue Play the student interviews recorded on Monday over the PA System or Television *Play or sing: “This Land Is Your Land, This Land Is My Land” ***Activities such as essays, special readings, skits, informal interviews of fellow students and staff by students, school morning TV programs related to patriotism, etc. are encouraged during “Proud To Be An American Week”.
