Prov 11:17 A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings - TopicsExpress

Prov 11:17 A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel man brings trouble on himself. Prov 12:25 An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up. Prov 14:31 He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God. Prov 19:17 He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done. Matt 25:38-40 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? The King will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Gal 5:22-24 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. The verses from Proverbs give sufficient reason to be kind. They seem to say that we benefit from being kind, the people whom we are kind to benefit from it and the Lord is pleased when we show kindness. As we move into the New Testament Jesus says that being kind to our brother or sister in need pleases Him and in fact is the same as being kind to Him. Finally the Galatians verses indicate that kindness is one of the fruits of the Spirit and I personally think it is close to the top of the list because you can’t show love without showing kindness at the same time. It is one of the fruits of the Spirit that just sort of tags along side of the other fruits. The man in the picture sure looks like he is someone that needs a little kindness. The flower he is holding just might be one given to him as an act of kindness. You don’t have to change someone’s socioeconomic status to show kindness because that is another gift, it is being a person who changes the status of the poor in a monetary way. Kindness may lead to a life changing event but it is simply telling someone that you care and you are there with them. You may sit and talk awhile, you may pray with them. Do what the Lord leads you to do, just be kind. Shalom, Mike
