Proverbs 27:2 - Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; someone else, and not your own lips. Poignant Principles from Proverbs Todays verse is more humorous insight from Gods Word. I smiled as I typed it. Heres a few more related quotes from human writers: * Let others blow your horn, not you...and the sound will travel twice as far. * Pride is the only disease known to man that makes everyone sick except the person who has it. * Edith lived in a little world bounded on the north, south, east, and west by Edith. One writer shared a subtle story of his own pride bomb. After a conversation with a rather famous, influential person, he told his accountability partner, Yeah, and he (famous person) is also a GOOD FRIEND of mine. His partner responded, Why did you have to say that? He then added, Dan, if you need encouragement, just let me know, and I will give it to you. Busted. His remark stung. But he was absolutely right. I was indirectly fishing for praise. I was subtly saying, Look at me! Im important! Im significant! Pride bombs are unnecessary statements we make that puff ourselves up. We have all done it on occasion - havent we? Sadly, some people become so proficient at pride bombs that they arent aware they do it. A Spanish proverb reads, Tell me what you brag about, and Ill tell you what you lack. Lets turn it around. I think its safe to say that God wants us to drop encouragement bombs instead of pride bombs. What say you? F.H.P. Pastor Tim
