Proverbs talks about a haughty spirit and a proud heart The Lord does despise, hate But a contrite heart He will in no wise cast out! David poses the question who shall ascend the holy mountain? And answers he that has a pure heart and clean hands! The thing is both of these things are not things you can do for yourself,but are done for you! This is more clear with a little bit of understanding of ancient Jewish culture Clean hands are accomplished by the host of the banquet! The guest is not to participate in the washing of his hands the host cleans beneath the fingernails and all scrubs rinses and dries, the guest is not to assist even in the wringing of hands So clean hands arent something you do but is something done for you! Jesus warns to beware of the leaven of the Pharisee, he says just a little leaven leavens the whole lump Two things here, 1; while we mostly agree that the leaven was sin, but the sin should be rightly divided,and once thats done,2;it has to be shown what leaven does! Its mostly talked about in a sense of spoiling the batch and actually it doesnt spoil but it does something that is undesirable for this recipe! It has its uses but not before God! Why didnt He just forbid leaven period? Because they displayed righteousness as something that they did or could be achieved by their strength and understanding! What in their own understanding, they didnt see was the Ten Commandments,and then all of their amendments to keep them,came after their claim all that You require we are Well able to do! It was never meant to do anything but to bring them to the end of themselves! Their pursuit of righteousness was right! But How they went about it was hamartia,missing the mark! Jesus like how sometimes what an instructor will do ,is come alongside a student and adjust a position, or a physical trainer will adjust a persons form so that the correct muscle is engaged and there is no injury in doing it wrong! He was consistently adjusting their form ! Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all its righteousness all these things will be added unto you... Dont practice your righteousness in front of people to be seen of them... No reward from the Father that way! Live simply quietly tending to your own business ... I know youve heard it said (adjusting) but if... One of the rare times The Lord spoke audibly from heaven was at the baptism of Jesus when he rose from the water, This is my Son in whom I am WELL pleased! Who gives me great joy!!!!! His joy in Jesus was that Jesus was demonstrating what the first Son of God, the First Adam was supposed to look like! Since that image got twisted, our image of Him became twisted!! What we sometimes skirt around is Jesus could have done whatever He wanted,and because He did have a pure heart, he still only said what the Father said and did only what the Father told him to do! Beloved,believed the Father!! As the second Adam, the Father was describing Himself!! A pure and Righteous God, that loves us so much that He would die for us! Which the serpent had put Gods character in question!! But there was no way to explain that other than be in our realm! Why because He is LIFE and cannot DIE!!! I Hear the retort,well Im not Jesus!! EXACTLY!! YOU CANt DO IT!!! Thats why the pure heart is a faith received thing and your hands clean is faith believed righteousness!! Done for us! Jesus displayed our forgiveness new by not missing the mark but willing to take on the consequence of missing the mark! When youve seen me youve seen the Father! Jesus is what clean hands and a pure heart looks like! We are being conformed into that image!!!
