Provincial Capitol athletes battle in DavNor Capitolympics October 1, 2013 at 2:43am DAVAO DEL NORTE, Sept. 30 (PIA): Provincial Capitol athletes are locked in a tight competition over this year’s winning team of the Capitolympics held as the finale event in observance of the 113th Philippine Civil Service anniversary. In opening the Capitolympics this morning, Provincial Gov. Rodolfo P. del Rosario cited this year’s Capitolympics as much “level up”, given the conducive sports facilities of the newly opened Davao del Norte Tourism and Sports Complex located right in front of Provincial Capitol in Brgy. Mankilam, Tagum City, Davao del Norte. Del Rosario recalled the employees as mere spectators of the recently held Batang Pinoy Mindanao Qualifying Leg but the Capitolympics provided them time “to enjoy the fruits of our labor and be cheered by ourselves.” Pointing out the relevance of the sports event designed exclusively for the provincial government workers, Del Rosario hoped that their physical stamina would be translated “into deeper commitment to give more of your quality time” for the progress of the province. He expected each employee to be proactive as well as enthusiastic everyday as he likened the civil service to a kind of marathon in which every employee is counted and that every employee is a winner. Meanwhile, Provincial Vice Gov. Victorio Suaybaguio encouraged provincial athletes to develop the heart of winning, a mind for crafting strategies as they show off physical strength in various sports and games during the Capitolympics. Cheerdance highlighted the opening of the Capitolympics which locked provincial capitol athletes from various department and units in various sports competition of seven major teams namely Vermis, Builders, Healers, Cotters, Legislators, Funders and Strikers. Athletes from the Provincial Veterinarian Office, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAGRO) forged forces to form the Vermi Team while those from the Provincial Engineering (PEO) and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) stick together to form the Builders Team. Resource-rich provincial offices of the assessor, treasurer, accounting and budget gel together to form the Funders Team while the Provincial General Services Office (PGSO) and the Provincial Human Resource Management Office (PHRMO) join together in the Strikers Team. Athletes of the Vice Governor’s Office, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Office and the Office of the Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan carry the banner of the Legislators Team while those from the Provincial Health Office waves the flag of the Healers Team. Small offices of the Provincial Information Office, the Provincial Legal Office, the Provincial Governor’s Office and the Provincial Administrator’s Office merge together to strengthen the force of the Cotters Team. Because the sports events in the Capitolymics will be done every Friday only, the Capitolympics is designed to run until December 16, 2013. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive D. Abangan)
