Provisional statistics up to 28th of December show that 2014 is the warmest year on record for the UK and for the Central England Temperature record. Only August was colder than average and December is set to finish milder than average. It is also the 5th wettest year on record. Although only 5mms of rain need to have been recorded between the 29th and 31st December for 2014 to be the 4th wettest year on record. Despite these records, it really hasnt been a year of extremes with no exceptionally hot (or cold) temperatures recorded. Simply the length of milder than average spells has resulted in 2014 being the mildest on record. Though of course certain individuals would have you believe that every time the temperature goes above 15 degree Celsius we are seeing a raging heat wave and every time the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius we have plunged into the harshest ice age in the history of our universe.
