Ps. 144 I am reminded of that old soldier, not old in years but in the experience of battle, exhaling as he picks up his weapon and rises to fight another charging enemy. He is tired, both physically and emotionally, but his resolve is unbent. “You want to fight: bring it on.” It isn’t that he desires the battle, but that he knows as long as the enemy exists the war must be waged. Behind him is the nation, family and friends that he fights for and he would no more give up this fight than surrender them to the enemy. Well, that’s how our faith feels sometimes. Weary but not overwhelmed, wounded and scared but not afraid we face our enemies knowing that He is our Rock and He has trained our hands for war. Whoever or whatever you might fight, spiritual battles, physical problems, finances or relational issues: He fights with us and shields us from defeat. Remember, our faith is not a fight for ourselves but for Him and the souls that stand behind us. We are soldiers standing behind the fortress of our Lord.
