Psa 119:68-Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. The nature, character, and actions of God reveal His great goodness. Surely to know anything about God is to know that He is good. The psalmist has earlier declared this. Psa 100:5-For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Also in Psa 107:1-O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. So we are repeatedly reminded of Gods goodness in character and actions. Of Gods goodness John Gill adds-...Essentially, originally, and only good, and the fountain of all goodness to his creatures; who does good to all men in a providential way, and especially to his own people; to whom he is good in a way of special grace and mercy, in and through his Son Jesus Christ; and even he is good to them, and does good to them, when he afflicts them; he makes their afflictions work for their good, either temporal, spiritual, or eternal... Wow! Goodness even in afflictions, as we studied earlier. He makes their afflictions work for their good. See Rom. 8:28. Earlier the psalmist asked us to Taste and see that the Lord is good... Psa. 34:8. Paul reminds us that it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. Rom. 2:4. Gods goodness cannot be separated from its effect on us. We just naturally want to draw closer and be taught of God. Albert Barnes adds-... As one of the acts of the divine goodness, the psalmist prays that God will make him more and more acquainted with his law... That is it. As we experience His grace and goodness, they draw us to His teaching desk to learn His Word. Lord, teach us today!
