Psalm 100:1-5: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come into his presence with singing. Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures for ever, and his faithfulness to all generations. I have always loved Psalm 100, a song of grateful praise. When I was young and singing in the church choir, this was one of my favorite anthems to sing and it is also a popular hymn. In doing some research on this Psalm, it is not known who wrote it or when and under what circumstances. But I don’t think that really matters, the psalm is clear in praise for God and His mercy and love. This is an action psalm. It tells us to shout and sing to all the lands, to serve the Lord with gladness and to say thank-you to God. It tells us to bless His name, because God is good, loving and kind. The author of the psalm is asking us to show how we love God, to be vocal about it and to be grateful for the love God gives us. The Psalm also asks us to acknowledge that God has made us and we are not self-made. He is the shepherd and we are his people. His mercy and kindness guide us and protect us. It asks us to know Him and worship him, to come to Him and enter His temple with thanksgiving. This Psalm reminds me to embrace life with humility, joy and gratitude and to demonstrate that in all that I do, relying on the love and mercy of God. Prayer: Thank you God for your loving kindness and everlasting mercy. Hear my cries of joy and praise to you, my shepherd. Fill me with gladness from your bountiful love and guide me as I go through my day under your care. Amen. Linda R
