Psalm 147:3-4 The Strength Of His Heart I am a really big fan - TopicsExpress

Psalm 147:3-4 The Strength Of His Heart I am a really big fan of Disney animated movies. The characters are fun and the music is great. But they tell great stories as well. One of my favorites is Disney’s Hercules. In this telling of the mythical Greek hero, the leader of the gods of Olympus, Zeus, tells his son, Hercules, that he can regain his godhood if he becomes a true hero. So Hercules trains hard and does many heroic deeds, but still he is unable to regain his godhood. In an attempt to overthrow Zeus as the ruler of the gods of Olympus, Hades, the brother of Zeus and ruler of the underworld, releases the Titans. Hercules defeats the Titans, but the glory of his victory is overshadowed by the death of a girl he cares a great deal about. Hades tells Hercules that he can still save her but it will cost him his soul. Hercules accepts Hades’ offer. However, through his sacrificial act, Hercules saves the girl and regains his godhood. Now, here comes one of the best lines in the movie. Zeus, explaining why Hercules was able to save the girl and regain his godhood, says, “A true hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.” My God is not a myth. He is real. Psalm 147:3-4 says, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. 4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.” God is so mighty that he can count the stars that are in the heavens. He knows each one by name. But as impressive as that is, His greatness is not in His might, but in His heart. He is tender enough that he can take a heart that has been broken and bind it together with compassion and understanding. He knows of our struggles. He understands our circumstances. He is not distant from our pain. God is my hero, my true hero, but not because of His might. If all He had was His might, we would be distant from him. He would not understand our struggles. He could not come down to our level to understand what we are going through. We would be unable to approach Him or communicate with Him. He is my true hero because his true strength is in His heart. Through the strength of His heart, God can mend our weak and shattered ones.
