Psalm 33: The Earth is Full of the Goodness of the Lord (21 verses, 2:12 to read) LISTEN | READ What I am about to READ This Psalm is a beautiful sermon calling the church to praise and thank the Lord for all His goodness and mercy. MARK The Latin name of Psalm 33 is Exultate, justi. The structure of this Psalm is the opposite of Psalm 31. Psalm 31 is all prayer, ending with a short sermon. Psalm 33 is all sermon, ending with a short prayer. The outline is something like this: 1-3: a call to rejoice, praise and sing to the Lord. 4-21: the reason for our joy and thanksgiving. 22: a prayer for the Lord’s mercy. LEARN 33:11 talks about the council of the Lord. This council, the heavenly chamber where the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit converse with one another, is one of the neglected doctrines of the Scriptures. The Council of the Lord is the conversation of the Holy Trinity. Wonderful! MEDITATE How would you answer this question: “What is the world full of?” Notice how 33:5 answers the question: “The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.” What reasons does the Psalmist give for us to praise the Lord? Notice all the times the Lord’s Word is mentioned. Consider verses 14 and 18, what things are the eyes of the Lord upon? Thoughts? Comments? Questions?
