Psalm 51:10 - "Create in me a clean heart" - King David knew what many religious people do not know, and that is this "ONLY GOD CAN CLEAN YOUR SOUL!" Certainly, after his great sin with Bathsheba, and after the murder of her husband, there was an abundance of cleaning to do! Therefore, David asked God to do, what he could not do. Solomon later would write this "Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?" (Proverbs 20:9). So, only God can clean our heart, but how does he do it? The Apostle Paul gave the answer when he wrote of those who had "purified their hearts by faith" (Acts 15:9). God gives us the faith to turn to Jesus Christ and ask Him to wash us! As the sinless, spotless Lamb of God, his shed blood has the power to cleanse us from every sin. When we ask him to wash us, "he cleanses us from all unrighteousness." When we ask God to forgive us and Save us, he washes away our sin. This is personal Salvation. There is even more . . . . After our Salvation, He makes it possible for us to return to him as needed for cleansing as often as needed, that we might through his Word, "cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians 7:1).
