Psalms 23:5 – Thou preparest a table before me in the presence - TopicsExpress

Psalms 23:5 – Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. There is an eastern custom of asking a special guest to hold out his cup and the host would fill it until the wine would overflow and spill onto the floor. The other guests would clap and cheer at this gesture because it signifies that the person was being honored beyond measure and that no hospitality would be spared for his comfort. Often, we think of being served instead of serving. Let’s suppose we are the host and Jesus is our special guest. The wine in the cup is representative of our expressions of love, joy, praise and gratitude for who He is and for what He did at Calvary. Would we have enough “wine” to make His cup overflow? In our prayer meetings and worship services, Jesus is there holding out His Cup before the congregation. Do we have enough love, praise and gratitude to not only fill it but to make it overflow onto the floor? It is time for us to make sure no prayer meeting or worship service is left half filled. Let’s lift up our hearts, hands and voices with a mighty sound of praise and thanksgiving that will cause an overflow into hearts of the other guests.
