Psalms in my Heart The Psalms, in which the Speaker declares - TopicsExpress

Psalms in my Heart The Psalms, in which the Speaker declares His sinfulness and His sinlessness, becomes clear to our comprehension when it is recognized, just Who, the Speaker actually is! The Psalms themselves inform us of His other offices and Ministries as Son of God and Son of Man, as King and Priest, as Servant of Jehovah, as Angel of Jehovah, as the Word of God, and as the Burnt Offering, the Meal Offering, the Peace Offering, the Sin Offering, and the Guilt Offering, and as the Resurrection and Life, are all sung of in the Psalms, together with the sufferings and glories appropriate to each. The Gospels record the fact that He prayed; the Psalms, and furnished the Words of the Prayer. The Psalter (Psalmist) is an inexhaustible source of strength, guidance, consolation and moral teachings for the people of God. Many valued commentaries point out these wondrous treasures. It may, therefore, in this aspect be viewed as a diary kept by the Lord when on earth in which are recorded, His own experiences and the experiences proper to those in whom, He dwells. The Interpretation of the Psalms, therefore, belongs to Him as Messiah, to Israel as His people, and to the nations as His possession. Its application is to all who feel their need for a Saviour, from sin and from its consequences. Only the sinless Messiah can sing the Psalms in their fullness. It deeply affects the heart to listen to Him as He sings: especially when, as the Representative and Sin-Bearer of His people, He declares their sins, sorrows, sufferings and chastisements as His own, blessing man. A quote I came across, I believe it to be a theologian by the name of Williams, stated this: Therefore when you read Psalms you are reading Jesus. The phrase, “I foresaw the Lord always before my face,” even though these are the words of David, and a great representation pertaining the burdens of his heart, still, it is more perfectly representation of Christ. It speaks of Jesus keeping His, Eyes, Heart, Thoughts, Direction, and His very Being, continually on His Father. This is actually the crux of His prayer in Garden of Gethsemane, when He said, “Nevertheless not My Will, but Thine, be done”. Even though all the Psalms, I believe, pertain to Christ, I personally think those written by David carry one to a closer vision of Christ Jesus than others. The reason should be obvious! David’s life, a type of Christ in his redemptive roll, as Solomon was a type of Christ in his Kingdom role…… In my study time I found this bit of reference: In 1958 during an evangelist meeting in Monroe Louisiana, A.N. Trotter (Alfred Nathaniel Trotter) made this statement to many pastors; “If you go beyond the Cross you backslide” (jsm). It has taken me so very long to comprehend and understand that idea. Reading Psalms, a great blessing for all who spend the time, gaining knowledge, that these writings are of Jesus, written for our passion of His grace. Because Jehovah Helps us All.
