Psychodrome: Psychodrome is an audio story from Big Finish and is the first story in the Fifth Doctor Box Set. Written by Jonathan Morris. As well as the aforementioned Fifth Doctor, Psychodrome also featured Adric, Nyssa and Tegan. Psychodrome marks the first time that Matthew Waterhouse has reprised Adric for Big Finish. Given the aforementioned TARDIS team, Psychodrome takes place during the 19th season. In fact it takes place very early on in the adventures of this crew with it taking place immediately after the Fifth Doctor’s official debut Castrovalva. Psychodrome effectively mimics what went on in Castrovalva making the events of the audio story very recent to the TV story with the Doctor and companions meeting what are more or less doppelgangers of themselves. Psychodrome reflects the atmosphere of the principal characters’ attitudes at the time of when the story is set including of course Tegan’s rush to go home. While the Fifth Doctor Box Set with the stories that it contains did not make it any distinguishable at least in name to other Fifth Doctor stories released before or since, Psychodrome is certainly an impressive way to kick start this set.
