Psychologically speaking, one of the dead giveaways that someone - TopicsExpress

Psychologically speaking, one of the dead giveaways that someone cares a lot about something is when they tell you repeatedly that they dont care about it. In fact, a lot of people dont recognize in themselves the difference between dont care, and wish other people didnt care. The opposite of caring is apathy. It is not hatred, disgust, annoyance, jealousy, or any other negative emotion. Cases in point: 7.1 million personal ads containing, I really dont care what people think of me. I am my own person. No... thats usually not correct. You observe that everything in life hinges on what other people think about you, and it pains you that you dont feel like you can be yourself without negative consequences, and youre actively searching for a social network which approves of the specific things that make you your own person. Especially in Nerd Culture: Ermagerd I dont care about sportsball. I dont care about sportsball so much that every time someone posts about sportsball on Facebook, I have to take time out of my day to tell everyone how much I dont care about sportsball. No... you care quite a bit. The number one indication of not caring about a post is not commenting. Its not just a stereotype that jocks make nerds lives difficult in school, or that book worm types are sometimes traumatized by being forced into sports they dont like in an effort to man them up. In many nerd circles, not caring about sports is a badge of honor. Its rejecting all those meathead neanderthals who couldnt name the first five digits of Pi. By taking the time out to talk about how much you dont care about sports, youre looking for nerd cred among other people who share your values. Youre actively searching for a social network which approves of them. You may now return to your regularly scheduled apathy.
