Psychopaths follow a very predictable pattern in their interactions with others (idealize, devalue, discard), and in many ways certain conclusions can be made about all of them. They often are very “cookie cutter” in how they behave. Survivors, on the other hand, are much more unique, because they are normal, emotional human beings. Anyone can be a target of a psychopath. That means that survivors have a range of personalities, backgrounds, interests, perceptions, strengths, weaknesses, and so on. Therefore, despite the importance of the creepy similarities across all survivor stories, the differences matter too, in terms of the process of introspection. Each person requires an individualized approach. You will probably receive a lot of advice from various people about who you are and who you should be and how you should heal, but ultimately any questions you ask yourself need to be tailored to what feels right to you. In the end, only the voice within you can tell you who you really are. Listening to all of your feelings and facing the pain as much as you are able are excellent strategies for tuning in to that voice.
