Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is surging in the New York City - TopicsExpress

Public Advocate Bill de Blasio is surging in the New York City mayoral polls, including Wednesday’s Quinnipiac poll that showed him with a 15-point lead over Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the Democratic primary. For Micheline Blum, the director of Baruch College Survey Research, the race has echoes of the 2008 Democratic presidential primary pitting Barack Obama against Hillary Clinton. “There’s a strong, better-known but much more middle-of-the-road woman who has some votes that people are not happy about that she has to defend, so in Quinn’s case it was term limits and in Hillary’s it was Iraq,” Blum said. “And then along comes this newer, more exciting, likable, more liberal guy, and people get excited by him.” Blum added that Quinn’s early lead was likely due to name recognition.
