Public Visioning Workshops for the Update of the 2040 Long Range - TopicsExpress

Public Visioning Workshops for the Update of the 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan The public is invited to attend five identical public visioning workshops, which will be held by the Northwest Louisiana Council of Governments (NLCOG), acting as the Shreveport-Bossier City Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in an effort to update the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) through the year 2040. The LRTP is a 25-year plan and the basic framework for all of the MPO’s transportation planning. The plan will identify future transportation needs in Bossier and Caddo parishes and guide the expenditure of federal, state, and local funds that become available for these projects. The current LRTP was approved in September 2009 and programs approximately $2.3 billion dollars worth of transportation improvements through the life of the plan. The Public Visioning Workshops will be held: Tuesday, September 23, 2014 – Bossier City from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, Bossier Civic Center (Bodcau Room), 620 Benton Road, Bossier City Wednesday, September 24, 2014 – Shreveport from 11:30am to 1:00pm, Shreve Memorial Library (Eaves Room), 424 Texas Street, Shreveport Thursday, September 25, 2014 – Shreveport from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, Broadmoor Baptist Church (Room 1300A), 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport Tuesday, September 30, 2014 – Benton from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, Bossier Parish Library (Meeting Room), 115 Courthouse Drive, Benton Thursday, October 2, 2014 – Vivian from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, Vivian Events Center (Armory), 625 Park Drive, Vivian The workshops will begin with a brief Open House, which will include information about NLCOG, the MPO, the LRTP, and the plan update process. Participants will then sit in small groups to discuss their individual values regarding transportation. The groups will be asked to examine and comment on possible growth scenarios, as well as how each scenario will affect our transportation network. The ultimate goal of the workshops is to identify a community vision for future growth and the appropriate means of supporting that growth with various modes of transportation (i.e. roadway, bicycle, pedestrian, public transportation, and freight). Transportation planning is important to everyone. As the region continues to grow, NLCOG needs to ensure that the transportation system within the MPO area remains safe and efficient. For this reason, NLCOG would like to collaborate with the public to identify future transportation needs to ensure that limited tax dollars are used for the greater good of the community. For more information about the LRTP, the MPO, and NLCOG, please call (318) 841-5950 or visit nlcog.org.
