Public letter sent to Minister of Transportation Israel Katz - TopicsExpress

Public letter sent to Minister of Transportation Israel Katz - Dear Minister Katz, I have recently returned to Israel and have been acquainted with the Rav Kav system and I felt an obligation to personally warn you of the dangers of this system. I realize that as a minister, you dont have the opportunity to ride many busses, so let me tell you my personal experience. The drivers are consistently and constantly distracted from their driving duties with the Rav Kav device that rests to the right of their seats. They spend between 20 seconds to a full minute taking money, pressing the necessary buttons and giving change and the receipt. If the rider needs to recharge their cards or check a balance it could take even longer. This is all happening at the same time as they are attempting to drive the bus! They are looking down at the screen, counting money and handing out receipts. Now Im sure that there must be a rule for them not to do this while operating the vehicle, but I am here to tell you that it is done on every bus, every company and every line. Clearly, there is no difference between the illegal practice of operating a cell phone or texting while driving and taking your focus off the road to work this machine. It is dangerous and if it has not yet resulted in serious injury or death, it is bound to in the future! Please take the necessary steps to correct this before this new system turns to tragedy. Thank you! Sincerely, Josh Wander Beit Shemesh
