Public service announcement: please, dont let your dogs greet - TopicsExpress

Public service announcement: please, dont let your dogs greet other dogs on leash. 1. The other dog may not want to be greeted. That dog may be reactive, geriatric, in training or have an injury. 2. The other owner may not want to reinforce her dog pulling and greeting strange dogs or perhaps the other owner is unsteady on his feet and may fall if his dog gets excited. 3. Allowing this behavior creates leash reactive dogs. Its not something you want to deal with, believe me! 4. Your dog could get seriously harmed in an instant to a sharp bite in the face. 5. Most people dont know enough about canine body language to see if either dog is actually enjoying the interaction. So the alternative is to politely walk past, wave, say you are training your dog, or pull to the side and wait and treat your dog for behaving. Engage with appropriate off leash romping and keep a nice space bubble about you when your dog is working with you on the leash.
