Public speaking has always been my forte and strength from the time I was in school. I won numerous speech contests and debating competitions on a national level. I have been the master of ceremonies at many major events and launches and I always managed to pull off the event with absolute ease. I was however, absolutely appalled with the co-ordinating team for yesterday afternoons event. It was a fashion company and an online magazine publication that collaborated to raise funds for Gaza through the beneficiary Gift of the Givers. Whilst the load shedding did play a role in disrupting the program, I was shocked with the slab dash nature of the event. When I arrived at the venue, I found that nothing was in place. They were literally still setting up. Nonetheless, the show still went on but I was in for a rude awakening. Considering that I never charged a fee to host the event, it was a huge slap on my face when my mom and her friend informed me that members of the co-ordinating team were gossiping about me. Look at her, all dolled up...How is she walking in those heels... She thinks shes the cats whiskers because she sang the song flawlessly......etc etc etc.. The gossiping continued without them knowing that they were gossiping in front of people who were my own. I thought to myself, what a bloody bunch of hypocrites. On the one hand they want to persuade Muslim women to adorn the hijaab and the abaya and on the other hand they have rotten character themselves. My message to this online magazine publication is this, before trying to glamorize the abaya and the hijaab, before trying to get Muslims and the public in general to adorn a dress code that is not even a part of Islamic or Arab history, try to first teach your colleagues and the public in general on how to be good Muslims and good human beings in terms of character. Will I ever want to be associated with such unprofessional people in the future. The answer is HELL NO!!
