Public’s Assistance Requested Bartholomew County: The Indiana State Police is requesting the assistance of the public in locating a lost Indiana State Police identification and badge. This afternoon at approximately 12:30 a trooper placed his ID and wallet on the top of his police vehicle as he was loading it with other items. He got in the vehicle and drove off not realizing he left his wallet and ID on the car. Just after 3:00 p.m. he received a phone call from his son indicating someone had returned his wallet and all its contents to his residence. At that point the trooper realized what he had done and re-traced his route but was unable to locate the ID. The route of travel taken when the ID was lost was from Columbus in the 1600 block of Lafayette St. north to 17th St., west on 17th to Washington St. and south on Washington. He then drove through the roundabout from Washington St. south to Lindsey St. He then traveled to 2nd St. then east on 2nd St. to State St. He then circled around the block of Von’s Pawn Shop back out to State St. The trooper then traveled State St. to U.S. 31, south on U.S. 31 to U.S. 50 into Seymour to the Seymour Express Car Wash and then to the Seymour INDOT. It is most likely the wallet and ID were lost very shortly after he initially left from the 1600 block of Lafayette St. The identification is a black leather “wallet like” carrier containing official Indiana State Police identification cards with Indiana State Police badge number 1659 affixed to the carrier. If the identification is located or if anyone has information as to where it may be they are urged to turn it in to or contact the Indiana State Police Versailles Post at 812-689-5000 or 800-566-6704 (within Indiana only) or turn it in to their local police department. It is suspected the ID has been located but not yet turned in. The Indiana State Police would like to remind the public it is a Class A Misdemeanor to impersonate a public servant. The offense is a Class D Felony if the person falsely represents themselves or impersonates a law enforcement officer.
