Publish UNZA Bursary Criteria, Demands Sara Longwe Human rights activists Sara Longwe has demanded that government makes public the criteria to award bursaries at the University of Zambia (UNZA) as part of the investigations into the death of Lusaka teenager who committed suicide after being denied the privilege. Longwe, wife of Lusaka-based satirist Roy Clarke, has curved her name as a seasoned rights activists and joins many Zambians shaken by the death of a Kalingalinga young girl. Below is her open letter to Vice President Guy Scott stipulating conditions on which government should base its investigations. OPEN LETTER TO THE VICE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA The Vice-President (Guy Scott), l request that the Minister of Education should do the honourable thing by publicising the bursary criteria used to deny the deceased Ms Munsankwa Makwambwa a bursary that led to her committing suicide. The Minister of Education should also publicise the grade 12 examination marks and the financial status of her co-applicants for a GRZ bursary in her cohort. This investigation will no doubt restore confidence in the bursary scheme. The truth would be the great honour that the Government can do for the deceased student’s family. The death of Ms Makwambwa shouldn’t be invain but lead to a restoration of due process in GRZ bursary system. I thank you.
