Published: 3 May 2013 A City of Bristol College employee has discovered a plaque that was displayed on the Muller Orphanages at Ashley Down, 168 years after it was originally placed. The brass plaque has the words “George Muller erected these orphan houses 1845 – 1870, through faith and god and prayer” and is thought to have hung outside one of the main houses, which is now part of City of Bristol College. Chris Lovett, who found the plaque, commented: “I was going through the archives when I came across the plaque I couldn’t even pick it up it was so heavy. After some research I contacted the Muller Foundation and they came out to see for themselves. I was delighted to discover it was the original plaque from the orphanages, it will be a great addition to the Muller Museum and I’m thrilled that it has been reunited with the foundation”. The plaque was presented to Alan Jessopp from the Muller Foundation outside the Orphan Houses, and will be placed in the Muller Museum in Cotham.
