The 41-year-old school teacher made a police report after she realized she was conned when she did not win money as forecast. Labuan police chief, Supt Adzhar Othman said Friday the case was being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and police were seeking public cooperation for information on the man. According to the report made on Thursday, the woman had received an advertisement leaflet in the post box in November, last year. The victim was attracted to the advertisement and wanted to know the suspects ability in forecasting the future. Over the phone, the suspect professed to be a Buddhist monk and a master who could alter the fate of the victim, Adzhar said. The suspect told the victim that she had good luck and could gain a huge fortune. Influenced by the prediction, she agreed to undergo a prayer session proposed by the suspect by remitting RM600 as deposit into his savings account. After the prayer, the suspect would send a picture of 4-digit results in which the victim had apparently struck first prize. From then, the suspect continued to demand payment for his prayers until the amount exceeded a quarter million ringgit, he said, and advised the public to ignore dubious advertisements.
