Published by Frank Defalco on March 05, 2014 OTTAWA – TransCanada announced today it is moving forward with the next regulatory steps for the Energy East Pipeline project. Canadian Manufactures & Exporters, Canada’s leading trade and industry association and the voice of manufacturing and global business in Canada, welcomes this announcement as being beneficial to its members and Canada as a whole. “The Energy East Pipeline is an enormous opportunity for Canadian manufacturers and offers great opportunities for supply chain manufacturers,” stated Jayson Myers, CME President & CEO, in response to the regulatory filing by TransCanada with the National Energy Board (NEB). “We are encouraged by the effort TransCanada is undertaking in building understanding and addressing environmental, engineering, aboriginal and economic issues throughout the ongoing process.” TransCanada has undertaken an extensive consultation process, which has included over 60 open houses in six provinces, 6000 landowners and over 490 communities. And, it is ready for the next steps in the regulatory process with the National Energy Board and the Bureau des Audiences Publiques sur l’Environnement in the process to build the Energy East Pipeline. The Energy East Pipeline project consists of an approximately 4,600-kilometre pipeline that will carry 1.1-million barrels of crude oil per day from Alberta and Saskatchewan to Eastern Canada. The majority of the project, approximately 3,000 km, consists of the conversion of an existing natural gas pipeline to oil from the Alberta/Saskatchewan border to Eastern Ontario and the remaining 1,600 km will be new construction within a portion of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec and New Brunswick. Associated facilities include pumping stations in each province and four new oil storage terminals, one each in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Québec and New Brunswick. The terminals in Québec and New Brunswick will include facilities for marine tanker loading. We look forward to working with TransCanada to ensure our members are well aware of the advantages and opportunities that will flow to Canadian manufactures from development of the pipeline. cme-mec.ca/?action=show&lid=JCKNC-E742G-1W6JA&comaction=show&cid=529RR-FLHCA-DGM7I
