Pull up your chairs, auction folks, and gather round so I can tell - TopicsExpress

Pull up your chairs, auction folks, and gather round so I can tell you the story of Taffy and how you are all changing her life. Taffy is a 12 1/2 year old senior girl whose owner unceremoniously dumped her at Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society last March. Poor Taffy has very few teeth left and is on a soft food only diet. As the weeks turned into months, Taffy began to accept the fact that her owner wasnt coming back and made the best of shelter life. She is neat in her cage, clean with the litter box and friendly to all her caretakers. She sits there watching the busy workers clean and I notice when somebody passes by her cage, she will reach out and tentatively touch the bars with her paw as if she is longing for a kind word or a pet or two. She is surrounded by kittens and young cats who come and go to new homes and families while she waits and waits. She never complains or becomes grumpy, but sits and patiently waits as the months roll by. I began to feel an ache in my heart everytime I saw her, so I finally decided to DO SOMETHING and I knew I could turn to the super power that is my auction group to do it!! I contacted Carmen Linda Conklin at Rustic Hollow in IA and she said of COURSE they would LOVE to have the beautiful Taffy at their very reputable and somewhat famous sanctuary!!! The cats there do need a sponsorship of $40 a month with 6 months up front. Since they only take special needs and difficult to adopt kitties, I know this wont even pay the vet bills. I went to Dr. Crowder, the chairman of the board at the shelter, and asked if we could get the $240 for the first six months from the Angel Fund. He said of COURSE we could, especially since we raised almost all the money in the Angel Fund. Taffy will become our own special SCAT girl. Once a year we will pay $480 to cover her entire year of sponsorship. A small price to pay I think! Anyway, it looks like she will be traveling to Rustic Hollow in IA on Oct. 18th via URRKN if all works out. Choo choo, all aboard!!!! And please go check out Rustic Hollow and the fantastic kitties and people there: rustichollowshelter.org/
