Pull-ups Wonderful functional movement & great for increasing strength and muscularity. For todays variation, I used an overhand wider grip. Being my first working movement, I wanted to excite the Central Nervous System & stimulate high threshold motor-units, (thereby facilitating the recruitment of more muscle fibers subsequently). Executed an explosive controlled concentric with a slower steady eccentric. As with all movements, initiation/engaging the working muscle First is crucial to optimize tension within the muscles of the back. Start in a fully stretched position, with an elevated scapula, then - depress & retract the scapula, engage the lats, & squeeze through using the contraction in your lats to produce the movement. Each rep should come to a full stretch/dead stop at the bottom, and be initiated in the same fashion by engaging the lats/retracting & depressing before the upward movement begins. *TIP: keep the abs locked down tight and avoid arching the spine; keep the body in a completely vertical plane. Forced outward intention can be implemented as well to increase stimulation of the lats.. especially on the negative - really try to shove outward while controlling a slow descent with the abs locked down staying completely vertical.
