Pull-ups help to build the latissimus dorsi muscles of the upper - TopicsExpress

Pull-ups help to build the latissimus dorsi muscles of the upper back. Training these muscles, which are also known as the "lats", will help to give you a V-shaped upper body. You may want to wear a pair of gloves when you perform pull-ups, to help you maintain a firm grip on the bar. To begin the exercise, place your hands on the bar slightly past shoulder width using an overhand grip. Pull yourself up until your chin is near the bar, then bend your legs at the knees and cross your feet, which will increase the difficulty of the movement. Lower yourself down until your arms are almost fully extended to complete the repetition. Never swing your body during pull-ups or you will decrease the effectiveness of the exercise. Once you are able to do 10 repetitions on a consistent basis, try wearing ankle weights or a weighted belt to add more difficulty to the exercise.
