Pulled from The Football Referee Further to the decision by secret ballot of the Northumberland FA to not extend the punishment of their 77-year old Vice-President John Cummings with a four month ban, a £250 fine and £1,500 costs for using discriminatory language when, in response to 24-year referee Lucy May enquiring with Cummings at a workshop event in March 2014 about the possibility of her refereeing within the North East Sunday League, Cummings responded to Ms May by telling her that she wouldnt be able to handle it, that a womans place is in the kitchen and not on a football field and that Its nothing against you personally, but all the time Im alive, a woman will never referee in my league, Premier League Michael Oliver, who is engaged to marry Ms May, has resigned from his role as the Head of the Northumberland FA Referee Academy, along with four other key members of Northumberland FA staff who have also resigned from their respective roles, namely Northumberland FA Finance Director, Steve Drew, Youth representative Ian Coates, referee coordinator Dave Martin and referee coach Scott Duncan bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30151460 bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30130219
