Pulled through double hernia surgery yesterday. Seems to have gone well and Ive had great support from friends as I mend this week, especially my friend Jim who stayed home with me afterwards. It was a trial getting clarification that EVEYONE involved with the operation--including the anesthesiologist--was in-network for my insurance. (They kept telling me things like they were pretty sure, which is NOT an assurance. But it turns out it was.) This was on the heels of my primary care phsyciian apparently referring me to an out-of network doctor for my colonoscopy a month ago and they want to charge me $3,000 for it--even though I asked at the endoscopy center that NO doctor not in my network do ANYTHING to me. So, when I heal a bit from this surgery, I will have this titanic battle with the insurance company over coverage. Let me just say it: Obamacare is a minefield and no matter how hard you try to get certification that something is covered, bills come in beyond co-pays and whole procedures end up not getting covered. WE NEED SINGLE PAYER. (I am sure the new Republican Congress will be put that on their agenda nextyear. NOT. But we have to continue to build the movement for it. Our current system is a completely wasteful and stupid give-away to insurance companies and unscrupulous providers.
