Pullups and Lat pulldowns: the best hand position to prevent shoulder pain. - When doing pullups or lat pulldowns Its better to keep your hands in the Neutral position as opposed to the traditional Overhand position. Most people dont realize this until they tweak their shoulder and realize that the overhand position hurts their shoulder but the neutral grip is much easier on the shoulder joint. Basically the neutral hand position puts our shoulder in their natural position (same position as when you let your arms hand down by your sides). The other BIG thing is that with a neutral grip during pullups or lat pulldowns you are able to get a better stretch of the lats. Better stretch means more development (size and strength). Its only a myth that wide grip pullups or lat pulldowns makes the back wider... nonsense. Fuller range of motion is always better.
