Pulwama battle over; one Ultra killed Protests rock Main Town and Chersoo SHABIR-UZ-ZAMAN. Pulwama, Jan 01: The 12 hours long gun fight between militants and security forces ended Saturday morning in this South Kashmir District killing one Militant. The battle had started Friday evening in Kangan village Of Murran area in Pulwama in which Police, SOG, CRPF and Army’s 183 battalion acted jointly. “The slain Militant was identified as Ajaz Ahmad Bhat of Chersoo Awantipora, belonging to LeT out fit”, DIG South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Reporters after the operation was over. He added that there were more militants, however taking the advantage of darkness they managed to flee from the spot. Earlier acting on a specific tipoff security forces had cordoned Kangan and with the start of the search operation, the militants hiding inside a house opened fire on the joint forces. In the retaliatory action the ultra got killed he said While one AK-47 Riffle was recovered from the spot, not dire damage was caused to the property as the militant got trapped outside the house when he was trying to run off from the place of operation. Meanwhile strict restrictions were imposed on the movement of people in Pulwama town on Saturday. Official sources told that this was done to prevent any damage to person and property of the people. Despite of the restrictions clashes between angry mob and the security forces occurred in the main town Pulwama especially in Murran Choke. Violent protests were also seen in the Kangan before, when the gunfight ended. Thousands of people comprising of men and women at Chersoo shouted slogans against security forces and in favor of freedom of Kashmir. During the violent protests they blocked the Srinagar Jammu National Highway for hours together. A large gathering comprising of thousands of people is going to take part in funeral procession of the slain militant in his native grave yard.
