Pump Up the Volume (1990) This movie found me at the right time in my life; That rebellious teenage phase. Accidentally landing on abc7, one lazy Sunday afternoon, its bright yellow, graffiti-esque opening credits immediately caught my attention and just so happened to coincide with my short lived fascination with Christian Slater. Quick Rundown: Mark is uprooted from his home in NY and is forced to move to the fictitious town of Paradise Hills, Arizona. Feeling depressed & displaced he sets up a pirate radio station and adopts the alias Hard Harry to vent his own frustration and confusion and in turn waking up the obedient teens of the sleepy town, encouraging them to speak up. Initially happy with the results of his pushing & prodding, Mark inadvertently stirs up a youth revolt and much more than he expected. Whos In It: Christian Slater, Samantha Mathis (Mario Bros the movie -1993), Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors -1986), Tidbits: *The soundtrack is made up of artists such as Leonard Cohen, Concrete Blonde, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Henry Rollins & Sound Garden. *Allan Moyle, not only directed and wrote this film but he also directed the cult hit EmpireRecords (1995). Rating: R (Some profanity/profane themes but not much) Where to Watch It: Click the link below for the full film.
