Pumpkins Progress Report- September 3rd 2014. Cats are universally popular, and they seem to inhabit a friendly domestic world, as well as a world of mystery and magic. Cats simple, symmetrical faces, with staring eyes and triangular ears, make them the perfect image for a small pumpkin lantern designed to glow in the dark. I plan to carve curious cats out of my smaller pumpkins, after I harvest them for Halloween. Fifty-nine days to Halloween. Spagalagoop-arooni, yippee-ya-hoo! Well, despite being solitary hunters, cats are a social species, and a cats communication includes the use of a variety of vocalizations, (mewing, purring, trilling, hissing, growling and grunting). Cats also have their own unique and specific body language. Cats are acrobats, they can jump high, walk on walls and fences and climb very high trees, (even with three legs). Cats were domesticated in ancient Egypt, and they were cult animals there in the land of the Pharaohs. Cats are descended from African wild cats. Cats prowl in the moonlight of mysterious night. Cats are the most popular pets in the world. Cats are now found in almost every place where humans live. Cats are called cool cats, because they have a minimal ability to sweat, with glands located primarily in their paw pads. Cats do not like you touching their paw pads. Cats have excellent night vision and can see at only one-sixth of the light level required for human vision. Cats can hear higher pitched sounds than either dogs or humans. They say that cats have nine lives. My cat is on his second life. My cat has three different names; Smokey Jim, Mister Trewlany, and Trotsky. He responds to all three names. T.S. Eliot wrote in his poem The Naming Of Cats; The naming of cats is a difficult matter It isnt just one of your holiday games You may think at first Im as mad as a hatter When I tell you a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES. I wrote; A small cat in a tall hat Climbs up a Chestnut tree Hes an acrobat and an Aristocat Hes the coolest cat in history Yes, Im looking forward to carving my Curious Cats Jack-o-lanterns for Halloween, and seeing them glow, all chimney red and Halloween orange, in October, when the spooky season is upon us once more. Well, the pumpkins are coming on real good now, changing colour each day, with each new sunrise and each new re-appearance of the ever growing Harvest Moon, especially now that I have cut away some of the excess foliage from the pumpkin patch, to allow more direct sunlight onto the pumpkins. My Chinese lanterns are glowing in the morning sun, bejeweled with silver dewdrops.
