Puncture-Fest at the Tom Hawkins Road Race Today... Sol was out - TopicsExpress

Puncture-Fest at the Tom Hawkins Road Race Today... Sol was out racing for the team today, at the Tom Hawkins 70 mile road race in Somerset. After a 3 mile neutralised start the race got underway, but before even completing one lap, Sol punctured and had to wait for an age for the neutral service car, which was busy servicing another 7 riders who had also punctured on the first lap! Eventually Sol’s rear wheel was changed and the service car drove off, which was when he discovered that his front wheel was also punctured. Game over. Sol was gutted, not only out of the race, but he hadn’t even had a decent ride… with just 7 miles showing on his Garmin. Even worse was the fact that we couldn’t head home as the service car had Sol’s wheels. So it was back to the HQ car park and an agonizing sit around for 3 hours until the race finished and he could get his wheels back. It was a shame, as it was a beautiful day and the course looked great, with a winding country section and a long straight climb on the major A road segment… and with Sol in an eager mood to give it a good crack of the whip. But it wasn’t to be, and was a wasted 12 hours and 300 mile round trip, so let’s just say that it was an exercise in patience, to say the least… with the moral of the story being… always carry a pack of cards in the team car! But onwards and upwards, and now looking forward to the Totnes Vire 2-Day stage race next weekend, when Jim, Craig, and Sol will be racing and flying the Falco banner high :) https://youtube/watch?v=0sF-P23gg0s&feature=youtu.be
