Punjab Bandh – AISSF To Take 1984 Victims Case At International Forums Denial of Justice To 84 Victims Will Be Challenged Internationally - AISSF Amritsar (November 01, 2104): Today is the 30th year of Sikh Genocide organized and orchestrated by the ruling party of that time. We have given the call for “Punjab Bandh” to highlight the denial of justice to 1984 Genocide Victims and impunity to those who perpetrated genocidal violence against the Sikh community. More than 300 Congress, RSS and BJP leaders were named by victims and and hundreds of FIRs were filed against them. But the successive governments shielded and protected each and every one of them despite ample evidence of their involvement in the killing of Sikhs. With no hope of justice from Indian judicial system anymore, with the “Punjab Bandh” we start the campaign for Sikhs right to self determination under the UN Treaties. The right of self determination is guaranteed in the UN Charter under “International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights”. Article 1 of the Covenants states “All peoples have the right of self- determination” We will go to the people of Punjab with a campaign to abolish Explanation II under Article 25 and seeking their opinion on the Sikhs right to Self Determination. Under the UN laws, people of the Punjab have the same right to hold referendum as the people of Scotland who have exercised this right in September 2013. Compensation to victims of 1984 announced by Modi Government is a gimmick to gain political mileage. We condemn such acts of the political parties who try to cover up the crimes against Sikhs by paying compensation instead of instead of prosecuting those who killed more than 30,000 Sikhs, stated AISSF President Karnail Singh Peermohammad. 2014 November will be 30 years when after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the Congress leaders organized and orchestrated genocidal attacks targeting the Sikh community throughout India. The attacks on Sikh lives, properties and places of worship were carried out in a meticulous and identical manner resulting in more than 30,000 Sikhs being killed most of them burnt alive, hundreds of Sikh women being raped, Sikh Gurudwaras being burnt; Sikh properties looted and more than 300,000 Sikhs being uprooted and displaced. Bibi Jagdish Kaur, prime witness against Sajjan Kumar stated that For 30 years I waited for justice but the Indian judiciary failed to convict Sajjan Kumar and his death squad members who killed my husband and son in broad day light in front of my eyes. I am disheartened but I am not going to give up my quest for justice. Now, I will take my plea for justice to the Sikh community worldwide.
