Puppy proofing a yard on the cheap.... Ive puppy proofed my chain link yard for our chihuahua sized terror Vinny. I wanted to share with the group my ideas and hope youll ad yours too. First I had a gap at the bottom of my fence at the driveway and between the wall. I was going to lay 4x4s in there and Amber Davies donated some 4x4 concrete pieces to my cause, thank you Amber. Next was my gate. It had a gap my lil guy could get through so I zip tied a short piece of pressure treated fence board to it. After lining the board up I drilled holes on each side of the bars that make up the gate and attached with zip ties. Next challenge was under the fence out front. I used pressure treated fence boards again. They come in 6 lengths, and are under $3 at Home Depot. I also drilled holes and attached to the chain link with zip ties. Next up is our neighbors fence we found Vinny could climb the small stucco wall and fit through the iron fencing. A roll of garden mesh from HD also took care of that escape route. A roll of 15 feet was about $18 and cut in half was enough for our 25 run, also zip tied to attach. As a final check I looked at all gaps of the fence and used either mesh or wood to close the gap. Also check your latches and make sure they are affixed tightly to prevent them from being pushed open and your dog escaping. A simple clasp helps this. My Lab Cyrus knows to nose the gate latch up to get out. I how this helps someone keep their lil family member in the yard safe and off the streets. My total cost was under $70 to dog proof my yard. You can do it for much less with used wood and supplies. The desert is full of rich that can be used as preventative borders around fencing and its free.
