Puppy update from Foster Mom Gigi... Hello!! Im at work today and Justin (my hubs) is on Sweet Mama and puppy duty. Its been hard to not text him every 10 minutes to check on her! I just wanted to tell yall about the vet visit this morning. Mama was so good. I took her with us, but left her in the car. When I told the vet about the little clef lip girl not making it, he made a good point. While humans can survive outside of the womb after a certain point in the pregnancy, even if they are premature, dogs arent like that. If they are born underdeveloped or too soon (which was probably the case for this little girl) they cant survive. He said she may have been conceived later than the other puppies, so she wasnt fully developed. Also, I had to ask about tail docking and removing dew claws and whether or not it is painful. He said that their nervous systems are not fully developed, so while they know something uncomfortable is happening, they forget about it as soon as its over. He also asked me about tail length. I said whatever he thought was best. He docked them to the breed standard which has gotten a little longer over the years. Im not concerned with the length as long as they arent too short. It bothers me when they are far too short! The little babies had one stitch in their tails and teeny bandages around their dews. Ill have to work on getting some pictures taken tonight:)
