There are many stories of dogs being heroes to their masters and pet owners, but very few about cats having the guts to save someone else. Well, theres this stray Russian tabby cat who proves to the world that the feline species also has the capacity to care and look after someone who might be in grave danger; in this case, an abandoned baby who was left in a box outside an apartment building in the town of Obninsk near Moscow in freezing temperature. Masha lives in a community in Russia, but is actually nobodys cat. Local residents, however, feed her; making her everybodys pet in a way. She earned the neighborhoods admiration after she was found caring for the abandoned baby; keeping him warm for several hours as she attempts to meow for help; apparently trying to catch someones attention. A neighbor, Irina Lavrova, as reported in New York Post, found the pair hours later on a Saturday, January 10, cuddled together in a cardboard box. Lavrova said Masha is very placid and friendly; so when I heard her meowing, I thought that perhaps she had injured herself,” she added. “Normally she would have come and said hello to me. You can imagine my shock when I saw her lying in a box next to a baby.” The baby boy was estimated to be around two months old. He was bundled in a clean jumpsuit and had a package of nappies and some baby food in the box. Masha has comforted him, kept him warm by cuddling and licking, reports say. Lavrova believes that clearly, Mashas mothering instincts had taken over and she wanted to protect the child. Reports say that an ambulance came and the baby was rushed to a local hospital where he was given a clean bill of health. Prior to that, neighbors said Masha had followed the paramedics outside; whether to see the baby off or just making sure the baby is all right. Anyway, the community has hailed Masha a hero, and has been spoiling her with her favorite food. Meanwhile, the babys parents have yet to be found. As for Masha, looks like she has become a celebrity and some have expressed desire to adopt her.
