Pussy Riot vs. Cecily McMillan It seems to me that the real difference is how slick American propaganda is compared to Russia propaganda. The Russians were dumb enough to put the three women in a steel cage, to give the world a glorious photo-op illustrating the repressive quality of the Russian state. The NYPD in terms of propaganda has everything going for it. They have TV shows like Law and Order SVU. They have the two NYC tabloids. They have the local TV news shows. More importantly, they know how to manage the visuals. They banned photographs. They banned pink hearts. The prosecution used the social media, convincing a jury of unsophisticated New Yawkers that a grainy video which showed little if anything about what happened that night was the smoking gun proving her guilt. Americans, mistakenly, perceive the NYPD as a police force. Theyre actually a form of Stasi. Were not talking about the likable old Paddy sitting at the donut shops, roughing up an occasional mugger. Were certainly not talking about the soft spoken, empathetic cops as social workers/therapists we see on Law and Order SVU. Were talking about a high tech version of East Germany.
