Put my running skills to the test tonight at about 11:45pm. Living close to the fairgrounds I am always on high alert during fair week. Over the years we have had people wander into the subdivision up to no good. I was just about to head to bed when Shadow, our Black Lab/Great Dane started growling and barked as she looked out the back slider door. Upon investigating I heard some movement in the night and it was obvious someone was either on the road or near my trailer. I put on my running shoes, grabbed a baseball bat and crept into the backyard. I spotted someone peering around the neighbors house and took off after them. They ran around the front of the house and I cut them off by crossing the neighbors backyard. I was able to get one person to stop and low and behold it was a kid. Probably 12 years old and boy was he scared! His 2 partners in crime had fled into the woods and were in hiding. I asked him why he ran and he said he saw me coming with the baseball bat and didnt want to get hit. In the end, I gave all 3 of them a scolding, told them to head home and advised them next time to just keep walking and not run. Actually feel kinda bad for them but there is no good reason why they should be out walking this late at night. Im sure I will see them again in the daytime and talk to them under better circumstances...I hope!
