Put the Christ back in Christmas? ----Warning: Controversial - TopicsExpress

Put the Christ back in Christmas? ----Warning: Controversial Post Ahead---- Being an individual who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ, I dont believe in brainwashing children. Growing up I was led to believe things about holidays that I later grew up to find were not true which honestly disappointed me. If I was being lied to about religion and holidays, what else was I being misled to believe? I have since come to terms with my newfound knowledge. While I still plan on upholding the traditions and customs of holiday seasons (I mean lets face it, Thanksgiving is AWESOME, I LOVE my family time, and there is nothing in the world that tops the Christmas season, let alone CHRISTMAS MUSIC!!!) I will never brainwash my children from reality. They will be fully knowledgable on two main things: 1) Thanksgiving was a holiday rooted in the mass genocide of a race of people, NOT a friendly hollywood dinnerdate with pilgrims. Pilgrims? Seriously? Who is approving this curriculum? If you believe that whitewashed lie you just may be living under a rock. People were murdered so you could enjoy your turkey and yams and poisonously entertain your brain staring at a box where nfl slaves topple over eachother for the sake of a pigskin ball. :-) 2) Christmas has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. He was not born in December...more than likely not even in the winter. Christmas has no Christian or nativity roots. It is a tradition of consumerism rooted in winter solstice and pagan rituals and celebrations of gods and sun-gods that were pertinent to other cultures in prechristian times. Christianity was actually slow to adopt this custom...and did it according to their doctrine at the time.....This is not to say that the nativity isnt a beautiful thing. I think the Nativity makes Christmas all the more beautiful and sacred...for CHRISTIANS. But that doesnt make the story of Christmas anymore true either. Why should we force others with differing beliefs to put Christ in a custom that did not involve him in the FIRST place? Especially when this custom was rooted in a doctrine strongly condemned by Christianity? Stop believing what people tell you and do your OWN research. Heres something quick, but interesting and enlightening (m.livescience/25779-christmas-traditions-history-paganism.html) In saying that though, I truly appreciate the spirit of the holidays and cannot wait to be spending it with my family this year. Just because I do not acknowledge the fables told to dress up these holidays do not mean I dont appreciate what they have evolved to become. :-)
