Putheri Paddy fields are one of the fertile paddy fields of Kanyakumari District. But now paddy fields are converted into housing sites illegally by ruling party MLA and party workers. The issue was brought to the high court for stopping the illegal conversion. The high court has given a stay order in 2011. But the stay order for stopping work is thrown to the wind by the ruling party MLA Mr.Nanjil Murugesan. The District Administration also has not implemented the court order. M.P.(M.D)No.14500 of 2012. But the construction goes on even today. Court orders are not obeyed in Tamil nadu. 50 acres of Cultivable land was converted into real estate plots by ruling party members. Panchayat president V Marimuthu is said to have given illegally permission to move forward. The collector S Nagarajan who heads the local town planning authority and who is believed to have given sanction is hesitant to comment on this issue to the media now.! sad. The Advocate Commissioner, M. Suresh Kumar, deputed by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court visited Putheri panchayat in Vadaserry village to verify the ground reality in the conversion of cultivable lands into housing plots on june 30. He found it shocking to see that many rules were flexed by panchyat and collectorate officials to give this project a nod. Once the farming lands is converted into houses it cannot be restored back for cultivation.
